Reading Passage strategies
了解題型：
3 reading Passage
40 Questions
(1-13 for passage1 , 14-26 for passage2, 27-40 for passage3)
60 minutes
Types of Questions:
- True/ False/ Not Given
- Yes/ No /Not Given
- fill in words (one word only)
- fill in words (Two words only)
- Paragraph headings
- Choose two letters for the answer (the information given in the paragraph)
- match
- which paragraph contains the information
- Questions to choose one correct statement (4 choose one)
- complete the sentence ( match them with the given endings)
- complete the summary using the words given in the list
Tips for reading section:
- look for your title first
- the questions in the same order as the paragraph so please first read the Questions and then read the paragraph
- spelling in your answer sheets matters. (don’t change the form of the word ), such as singular noun, past tense etc
- learn on the types on the questions that you may encounter on the reading section
- underline the important information, it helps you when you read
- don’t panic even the topic is not familiar to you
- developing your speed reading skills
- boost your vocabulary, take notes of your vocabulary
- practice reading those complicated articles such as BBC and the economist, you never know how hard you get on the reading sections
- practice doing reading sections at home in the real test like condition (limit your time)
- The correct Approach
Step 1:Always read the title and predict as much information as you can within a minute’s time before you engage the topic.
What? Why? How? and visualize 20 secs only
Step 2:Look at the Questions
Find Qs that give informations which is a paraphrase of the passage. Skim read them
But do not skim questions that have extra information such as True/False/NotGiven
Step 3: Read the passage 8-10 mins
make sure your inner voice has intonation
stay calm
Step 4:Answering Questions
have a 60-70 percent of the understanding of the passage.
Try to answer half of the Qs without looking back at the passage.
Do not change answers and believe in yourself.
Tips:
Visualization help you to effectively store information and search for it.
- Matching sentence endings questions
The full sentence after you match the right ending MUST be grammatically accurate.
If it is not, even if the info is correct, it is not the right answer, so keep looking.
for these Qs both the information and the grammar just be correct.
(don’t just choose the answer looks correct)
First decide whether the information is given or not given.
How?
By identifying whether the information is important to include in a 700 words essay about this topic.
Do not read the questions before answering, because it’s confusing and wasting time.
Correct techniques during reading section:
Don’t Skim and Scan for answers to Questions if you want to get a score up to 6.5
(Because the answer of the test use paraphrasing and special types of Questions to block this technique.)
Read the paragraph.
